Candied Nuts


½ cup (125ml) packed brown sugar

½ tsp (2 ml) salt

Pinch nutmeg

3 cups (750 ml) raw nuts, such as pecans, almonds, cashews, walnuts


Preheat oven to 350˚F. In a bowl, combine brown sugar, water, salt and nutmeg to make a paste. Stir in nuts until completely coated with sugar mixture.

Spread nuts out in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake, stirring every 10 minutes, until sugar looks crumbly and nuts are toasted and very aromatic, about 30 minutes. Remove from oven and stir. Let cool completely before serving. 

Makes 3 cups

Make-ahead: Store in airtight container for up to 1 week.
